One of the eighty grand affairs at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, July 8-16, 2011.
Late Night at the Georgian Ballroom* with
Mike Murley Quartet

Mike Murley is a man of many sounds and plenty of savvy. At a young age he ruffled feathers playing sax in Toronto’s lively jazz mis- creants The Shuffle Demons and has since embedded himself in the backbone of Canadian jazz. Having put time in teaching at many of the country’s lead- ing jazz programs, has earned myriad national jazz awards and played with the nation’s finest players, Murley has made a name for himself as an innovative, thoughtful performer. Much of his work of late has been based in traditional bop and modal jazz. Using the frameworks of those genres, Murley manages to sneak into your ears all calm and clever, and often winds up surprising with new, unexpected grooves.

kitchen stays open, the bar is stocked and you never know what will
